The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) proudly presents the 4th Self-Paced Online Training on Resource Description and Access (SPOT on RDA)—a flexible and comprehensive program designed to strengthen the cataloging capabilities of Filipino librarians and information professionals.

This online training is ideal for both seasoned catalogers and LIS practitioners seeking to master RDA and transition from AACR standards at their own pace.

Course Structure

The training consists of five (5) module courses covering the following topics:

  1. IFLA Library Reference Model (LRM) and Resource Description and Access (RDA)
  2. Understanding MARC21
  3. Recording Attributes of Manifestations and Items
  4. Identifying Works and Expressions
  5. Creating Authorized Access Points, Understanding Relationships, and Authority Records

Learning Objectives

By completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the training objectives and guidelines
  • Determine IFLA LRM entities, their respective relationships,
  • and how these relate to RDA;
  • Explain the structure and purpose of MARC21;
  • Record attributes of manifestation and item entities using RDA; Identify works and expressions;
  • Create authorized access points and accurately describe
  • relationships and attribute records using RDA.
  • Reflect on their learning from Modules 1–5 and share their
  • experiences, challenges, and insights with the facilitators.
