The Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) is organizing a virtual research colloquium on 15 August 2024 titled “Leading Academic Libraries: Navigating Challenges, Seizing Opportunities.” This colloquium explores critical themes in academic and research library leadership, change management, and the vital interplay between these elements.
We welcome scholarly contributions that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Leadership Dynamics in Academic Libraries
- Resilience in Leadership
- Leadership and Professional Development
- Organizational Learning
- Organizational Changes (i.e., strategic planning, reorganization, culture change, technological change, new roles, etc.)
- Library Initiatives and Policies (i.e., challenges, opportunities, etc.)
- Learning from challenges and setbacks
- Approaches to Leadership (i.e., collaborative decision-making processes)
- Change Management/changing evolving roles
- New approaches to old ideas and launching new library programs or services (i.e., Archives and Special Collections, Information Literacy, Collection Development, Reference & Instruction Services, Technical Services)
Submission Guidelines
Interested authors should observe the following instructions:
- An informative (extended structured) abstract of 1000-1200 words must be written in English and submitted as a Word document. The abstract should include the following (see attached template)
- Paper Title: 14 pt (bold upper and lower case)
- Author’s name and affiliation: 12pt (bold upper and lower case)
- Purpose/objectives of the paper
- Significance of the study and originality of the paper
- Design, methodology, approach
- Results and discussions (if available already)
- Research limitations and implication/s, if applicable
- 3-5 keywords separated by semicolons
- About the author/s, including name/s of author/s and presenter/s, position or title of presenter/s, affiliation of presenter/s, email address, and short biographical note (not exceeding 200 words).
- Submissions will undergo a double-blind peer-review process to ensure that the authors’ identities are concealed from reviewers.
- The abstract should be prepared using the guidelines and must be submitted with the subject [ABSTRACT SUBMISSION] 2024 PAARL Research Colloquium to paarl.resjournal@gmail.com on or before 07 May 2024.
- Submission of a full paper is required and must be submitted on or before 17 June 2024.
- The full paper, with a maximum of 10,000 words, must be written in English and submitted as MS Word document (*.doc or *.docx).
- The full paper must be formatted as follows (Download the template here):
a. Default font (Main body): 12pt, Times New Roman
b. Default line spacing: single-spaced, justified text
c. Paper title: 14pt (Bold Upper and Lower Case)
d. Author’s name, affiliation, abstract, keywords: 12pt (bold upper and lower case)
e. Page size: Letter-size (8.5”x11”) - Submissions will be evaluated using the following criteria:
a. Relevance to the practice of Philippine Academic Librarianship
b. Significance of the research topic/problem
c. Originality
d. Quality, soundness, credibility of the theoretical/conceptual framework/ and or research paradigm/methodology
e. Quality of findings and recommendations - Accepted submissions will be presented at the research colloquium and considered for publication in the 2024 PAARL Research Journal. Additionally, accepted papers may also be eligible for the 2024 PAARL Best Research Awards to be presented at the Association’s Annual General Assembly and Awarding ceremonies in January 2025.

The PAARL Research Journal (PRJ) is published and managed by the Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. PRJ is an annual, peer-reviewed publication for library research in the field of Philippine academic and research librarianship.
